Is This True?
I go to Mahanti Keys all the time and I always visit the spot where a Teasure Chest always is. I got a gold Armor piece from it once. Now my question is: "Am I ever going to get anything from it again, because every time I check the chest, It is empty?"
Please Note: I am not refering to a chest that requires a key. Just a chest that you click on, and it opens and gives you something (once for me). Thank You... |

Stop checking it. There are chests like that throughout nightfall that give pretty decent stuff on first opening them. Wait a few months, then try again. They have to reset, which they won't do if you keep checking them. If you open it too soon and it did reset, you'll just end up with some purple junk.

Explanation plus all locations of them. There is 2 in every "area" (ie, 2 in Istan (that island you start the game on), 2 in Kourna, 2 in Vabbi, etc) |

O.K. I Will Take The Advice Given.
I had heard something about "something" resetting but I must have forgot it was chests. Well thank you as that is what I needed to know. But on another measure... what would be an accurate measure of how long after I first checked it should I check it again to get a "Gold" item?
Thanks Again... |

Getting a gold again from a free chest? Never. You will ALWAYS get purple items the second time. No matter how long between opening. Including a full year.

From all my experiences.....
The first two times have been golds always. Every time after has always been purples, but you still get a little coinage. I've seen where other people have claimed to get golds after the 3rd time....but its rare if at all. |

Really?
Now I don't know who to believe... One person said I should wait about a month to get another gold item although that does sound like something Anet would do. Oh, And have this been proved by any tests/research?

Quick Question...
About how much gold did you get from the chests (it doesn't matter where or what chest you got it from)? Also, So I should take a previous posters advice and wait about a month until opening it again?

The game physically (or digitally, as it were) won't let you open it for another month, and if you try to, that timer will reset. Just run through to all the chests in Nightfall once every month or a month and a half (there's locations and maps on Wiki) and you should be fine.

This is untrue, after getting back from my 1+ year ban I opened the free chests for the 2nd/3rd time and got an abundance of golds.

I get golds from those chests more often than not.
Anyway, best to wait a few months before reopening one of those chests. I tend to forget about them completely, so I go two-three months between opening them. The quality of the items you get from them also depends on where they are - the ones on Istan are going to have low level junk, whereas you're more likely to get something decent from the ones in Vabbi or the Realm of Torment. |

based on my exp so far, i've always got 1.5k gold at least and always gold items, opened a total of like 7 chests so far, I never could be arsed to run em monthly. But if those statistics help, there you go.

I got golds from my first chest, then had to wait over 9 months for a rest including severa 2 and 3 month breaks without trying, when it finally did reset I only get junk purples now. I rarely ever try as I get more for killing a sigle level 24+ mob.
The wiki article is worthless junk and myth, just ignore it. |

Just forget about it its not worth your time waiting and thinking about it for months and then getting some purple crap. There are far more worthwhile things to do.
